Vom 27. Mai – 26. Juni präsentiert die Tiefgarage die erste Einzelausstellung von Anastasia Ax in Deutschland. Die Künstlerin lebt in Stockholm und arbeitet überwiegend mit Papier, Gips und Tusche. Ihre Eingriffe sind ortsspezifisch und mit performativen Prozessen verbunden.
Ax nutzt für The World As Of Yesterday Altpapier aus regionalen Recyclingunternehmen. Das Papier wird in Firmen und Haushalten eingesammelt und zu Blöcken gepresst und so für die Weiterverarbeitung vorbereitet. Die Blöcke bilden einen Querschnitt aus weggeworfenen Informationen einer spezifischen Region und Zeit. Als Ausgangsmaterial für die Ausstellung wählt Ax diese Kulminationen aus wertlosen, historischen Dokumenten und reaktiviert Vergessenes im Ausstellungskontext. Wie ein archäologischer Befund werden die Möglichkeiten des Papiers durchexerziert,. Die Prozesse und seine Resultate werden in der Ausstellung präsentiert und fortlaufend ergänzt.
Circa 30 Personen eröffneten die Ausstellung, indem sie Seiten aus den im Ausstellungsraum platzierten Blöcken entnehmen und aus ihnen vorlesen. Die Teilnehmer schöpfen Informationen aus dem Ausgangsmaterial und bringen sie in einen neuen Zusammenhang. Durch den simultanen Sprechakt entsteht ein dichter Klangteppich, der die geschriebene Information verbal kopiert. Simultane Sprechakte werden auch innerhalb der Ausstellungsdauer fortgeführt.
Am Eröffnungsabend und während des gesamten Wochenendes arbeitet auch Ax mit dem Material. Sie verformt es plastisch durch die Beigabe von Wasser oder die Verwendung flüssiger schwarzer Tusche. In einem Akt, der mit gewaltvoller Zerstörung, Manipulation und Veränderung verbunden ist, werden die Papierballen zerpflückt und in beiden Räumen plastisch weiterverarbeitet.
Papier dient der Speicherung und Überlieferung von Informationen. Vor der Verwendung geschriebener Dokumente wurden Inhalte ausschließlich verbal weitergegeben, bis in die Antike wurden ganze Epen Wort für Wort an folgende Generationen übertragen. Ax widmet sich diesem Themenfeld und spielt mit den Möglichkeiten der Konservierung des gesprochenen Worts im künstlerischen Kontext. Die Projektreihe The World As Of Yesterday realisierte Ax in unterscheidlichen Ausprägungen bereits in einem Artist-in-Residency-Programm in München (RambaldiResidence), in Stockholm, Miami und NYC.
Anastasia Ax wurde 1979 geboren und lebt in Stockholm. Sie ist seit 2003 im Ausstellungskontext präsent, u.a. stellte sie aus in: Moderna Museet (Stockholm 2012), Kunsthalle Athena (Athen 2014) und Serralves Museum (Porto 2015). Ax erhielt 2015 den rennomierten Internationalen Faber-Castell-Preis für Zeichnung.

Intervention in the space during the weekend
On May 27, Tiefgarage presents the first solo exhibition of Anastasia Ax in Germany. The artist lives in Stockholm and works primarily with paper, plaster and ink. Her interventions are associated with site-specific and performative processes.
Ax uses for The World As Of Yesterday waste paper from regional recycling companies. The paper is collected in companies and households and pressed into blocks and so prepared for further processing. The blocks form a cross-section of discarded information of a specific area and time. As starting material for the exhibition Ax selects these culminations from worthless, historical documents and reactivates the forgotten information in the exhibition context. Like archaeological findings the possibilities of the found object – the paper – are examined through. The process and its results are presented in the exhibition and are being continuously updated.
Approximately 30 people will open the exhibition in a performance by reading from the paper that will be removed from the paper bales in the exhibition space. Participants bring the information from the source material into a new context. The simultaneous speech creates a dense soundscape out of verbally copied information. This simultaneous reading actions will be continued within the exhibition period.
On the opening night and during the weekend Ax is also working with the material. By the addition of water or the use of liquid black ink she deforms the structure of the paper. In an act that is connected to destruction, manipulation and modification, the paper bales are plucked and processed plastically in both rooms.
Paper is used for the storing and tradition of information. Before using written documents contents were passed only verbally, to antiquity whole epics were transmitted word for word to the following generations. Ax is devoted to this topic and plays with the possibilities of preserving the spoken word in the artistic context. Ax realized the project series The World As Of Yesterday already in other forms at an artist-in-residency program in Munich (RambaldiResidence), in Stockholm, Miami and NYC.
Anastasia Ax was born in 1979 and lives in Stockholm. She has exhibited since 2003 and the latest exhibitions include: Moderna Museet (Stockholm 2012), Kunsthalle Athena (Athens 2014) and Serralves Museum (Porto 2015). 2015 Ax was recipient of the prestigious Faber-Castell International Drawing Award.
